Your Position: Somewhat agree
Supporting Statement: Oshawa is growing very fast and this city needs to be supported in the right direction with the growth. We need to be an inviting city for growth both in the area of residential and business. People are where the businesses built and businesses are built where the people are, therefore I agree with the tax incentive to promote the growth. Particularly, with the trade war with the neighboring county, and with high inflation we need to promote our own.
Your Position: Somewhat agree
Supporting Statement: Climate change combat is needed all around the world as it is a global concern not just today but into the future. A practice should be maintained to have a focus on artificially producing material and their use. Our waste management is doing what it can but more should and can be done at the waste management sites so people are encouraged to do their part responsibly. Once I am elected, I plan on making suggestions at the regional level to promote better and resourcefully managed centers to promote the opportunity for the residents for better recycling practices.
Your Position: Somewhat disagree
Supporting Statement: I can't say that the municipal workers are paid too much particularly when the inflations is very high. When taking into consideration the high prices we are paying for everything, the income should also support for the ability to maintain the standard of living. It's not only for the municipal workers but employees in every field of work. Inflation is a national concern and all level of government should take part in better managing the country to navigate through this tough times.
Your Position: Somewhat disagree
Supporting Statement: Private contractors are not necessarily better, but a quality control may be performed by the municipality to maintain the efficiency regardless of who does the work. Let's take the city boulevard maintenance for example. It doesn't matter who does grass cutting and who is shoveling snow, as long as it is within the approved budget it should be done timely and with attention to detail. Weather it is the municipality the contractors, people are being employed.
Your Position: Somewhat agree
Supporting Statement: I don't think the decision in the hands of the mayor but majority vote by the council. All and any proposal should be taken into consideration and with budget in mind. It is not wise to grant a single proposal from the council but it should be prioritized based on the need in that ward. I can easily think of item some opportunities lacking in some areas of Oshawa and it is the reason for my running for council. When elected, I will be bringing out the opportunities my ward is lacking and will also consider and support the needs of the other wards with careful consideration.
Your Position: Somewhat agree
Supporting Statement: I'm not against the idea but the freedom is given to the people to practice wheat they believe and how they entertain. If a proposal comes for an approval, I may support the idea
Your Position: Somewhat agree
Supporting Statement: Yes, the land we live in belongs to the indigenous people and we should acknowledge their ties to the land.
Your Position: Somewhat agree
Supporting Statement: Yes some historians were narrow minded in the past, as we develop and understand the foul play we reconcile and do what majority supports.
Your Position: Strongly agree
Supporting Statement: Oshawa is one of the highest property taxed municipality, I believe a much better budget management is needed at the mayor and council level. It is one of the points I touch in my campaign. It should not be the responsibility of the resident to pay for money mismanaged by the municipality.
Your Position: Somewhat disagree
Supporting Statement: Oshawa property owners are already paying high tax compared to other municipalities, we should collaborate in finding a model to support the residents for the high taxes.
Your Position: Somewhat agree
Supporting Statement: That all depends on supply and demand. If the rental availability is low and, not enough homes are being built then I support the idea so all citizen of Oshawa would have a place to live and the building are being utilized. But if the demand is low and not able to rent out the property then the owners should not be punished further.
Your Position: Somewhat agree
Supporting Statement: Multi-unit home in a community should be promoted with the right amenities in place. Some people are not able to afford housing in the high-priced market, some home owners are not able to pay their mortgage, and the province claim that there will be shortages of homes in the near future. Considering what was mentioned it would be smart to allow multi-unit homes particularly where some homes are very large like the areas of Main street, Avalon street, Bickle ave, Eastwood ave etc. As long as enough parking availability and entrances to the building are there, we should promote the opportunity.
Your Position: Somewhat agree
Supporting Statement: Green space in any community is a must. There is enough land out here for development.
Your Position: Somewhat agree
Supporting Statement: Not everyone is wealthy in a society, and we should support the unfortunate people at least by giving them a break to have access to programs. I have seen well to do children not able to attend programs since their parents cannot make ends meet. We need to support the growth, provide opportunity for the people in need and that is where the tax money should be better utilized.
Your Position: Somewhat agree
Supporting Statement: Bike lanes are part of our culture, so yes I support the idea.
Your Position: Somewhat agree
Supporting Statement: Policing can be managed well to serve out community. I can suggest ways where the presence of police can minimize crime not only in downtown but through out the city.
Your Position: About the same as now
Supporting Statement: It is not home much to spend for the service, but how well the service can be performed and money should be put out to meet the need of the community.
Your Position: Somewhat agree
Supporting Statement: Police should have the authority to ask people to leave the space and respect the ones who are against the use of drugs. There are policies put in place where and how to use legal drugs and how not to use illegal drugs and those policies should be practiced by the citizens and the policies should be protected by the law enforcement when and where necessary. I have seen some people smoke just steps away from entrance doors they should be informed of the distance they need to be away from the public entrance to respect each other.
Your Position: Somewhat agree
Supporting Statement: It is a community we are serving so the addicts should be supported and assessed to see whether they can handle themselves. It should be the responsibility of the support services but due to the uncertainty of the drug using individuals and their possible violent reaction is where the support servers would need the protection of the trained police enforcement.
Your Position: Somewhat agree
Supporting Statement: There has to be a balance here to support the homeless people but find a cure for the cause. We shouldn't allow the homeless people comfortable being homeless continuously. Sure there are reasons why one is homeless, but some homeless situations can be a temporary lived situation. To support the homelessness, I plant to give back 6% of my income for the cause.
Your Position: Somewhat agree
Supporting Statement: Homeless people can't be sitting around private places but in public places. I believe they should all have an opportunity for rehab programs. If we try a large number, we can help a few for sure and this should be continuous effort. We need to provide them with programs and self-development opportunities.
Your Position: Somewhat disagree
Supporting Statement: Landlords are not making money in this market and most are putting money out of their pocket to pay mortgages. Landlords now are hurting more than the tenants as the interest is high and therefore the mortgage is high. There should be a balance between the tow parties. This is a provincial level issue where the provincial government should be involved in making the right decision.
Your Position: Somewhat disagree
Supporting Statement: The truths is even if the developers are forced to pay , they will turn around and pass the cost onto the buyers. The three parties involved are the developers, buyers and the municipality. There should be a perfect balance.
Your Position: Somewhat agree
Supporting Statement: Residential streets should be limited with speed limits and ticketing should be in effect.
Your Position: Somewhat agree
Supporting Statement: The question is vague. A community should invest in libraries based on population and program needs.
Your Position: Somewhat agree
Supporting Statement: A municipality should try and find or manage solutions for homeless and social housing needs instead of promoting them. The solution should be good for all residents. Support should be there for the needed and personal development options should be there for the needed. There should be programs available for the cause and cure so we can appreciate the tax payers.
Your Position: Somewhat agree
Supporting Statement: Oshawa's population has grown lately and some of the roads cannot provide for the growth. I can tell many of the streets are being re-done to have city services and double lane on each direction. I can appreciate the development where needed the most but the city should also have the funds and manpower to expedite the development. Particularly the north Oshawa streets are going through major re-developments such as Main street, Thornton Rd North etc. I can tell the city is prioritizing the need and the development.
Your Position: Somewhat agree
Supporting Statement: Simcoe street is a busy street with to of the main academic institutions in the city and the Windfields in the north is a growing community. Simcoe street going south is the gateway to downtown from 407. Living in the area I can tell there is a continuous bus transportation present. Perhaps we can better manage the service to meet the supply and demand.
Your Position: Somewhat agree
Supporting Statement: I do agree that water front development may affect the natural areas, but development should take place without affecting the natural areas by limiting to certain distance to the natural area so it is respected.
Your Position: Somewhat disagree
Supporting Statement: Major street closures is a hassle for the community, perhaps if work can be performed on weekends, nights and evening with respect to weather and where they can save time to expedite to get the work done should be considered. My street was re-done with city services in the past and the company went on strike for 4-6 months and that was unacceptable. As and experienced contractor, I can understand that construction takes time but we should find any ways possible to get the jog done sooner if not on time.
